About KIEZ

KIEZ plans days in Berlin. It is built on a research corpus of 175 places and 16 districts, and this page says who assembled it and how far to trust it.

Who

Artur Arslanov researches, writes and builds this. One person, in Berlin, not a team and not a media company. There is no advertising on the site, no affiliate links, and nothing here was paid for by a place that appears in it.

Corrections are welcome and get made. If a place on this site has closed, moved or changed its hours, the entry is wrong and should be fixed rather than defended.

How the corpus was built

Places were gathered from district offices, Berlin.de, the venues themselves and local press, then filtered down to those with a traceable source. Each one carries the URL it came from and the date that URL was read. District writing draws on 235 separate sources, mostly Bezirksamt pages, Senate press releases and court decisions, each cited at the sentence it supports.

Public transport times come from the BVG journey planner for a fixed departure, Monday 3 August 2026 at 12:00. That is a single snapshot, not a live lookup, and it is stated on every page that uses it.

What is wrong with it

Four known problems, in the order they should worry you.

127 of 175 places

Most entries are not confirmed open

Only 48 places were checked against a source on the date shown. The rest were recorded with a source and never confirmed since, and every one of them says so on its card. Treat an unconfirmed entry as a lead, not a promise.

43 places

Some researched places are missing entirely

43 of the 221 places in the corpus have no confirmed coordinates. They are left off the map rather than pinned to a guess, so the map is smaller than the research.

48 full pages

The depth is very uneven

Neukölln and Prenzlauer Berg were researched place by place. Everywhere else has one sourced line per place. Six district pages carry the long treatment and ten are short. Each page says which it is at the top.

Walking times

Some data was collected and then thrown away

Walking times between places were measured against a public routing server that returns driving times whatever profile it is asked for. The whole set implied a median walking speed of 15.8 km/h, so it was discarded rather than published. No walking time appears anywhere on this site.

What is not here

No ratings and no reviews. Nobody has reviewed these places for this site, and inventing a star rating to earn a search result is the kind of thing that gets a site penalised, deservedly.

No photographs. The image pass did not resolve a properly licensed, correctly attributed image for a single place, so the site publishes none.
