History
The square was designed as a Gründerzeit landscaped square between 1885 and 1887 and was called Wörtherplatz until 1947. [1]
It was renamed for Käthe Kollwitz in 1947, and the square's name later gave its name to the surrounding neighbourhood. [1]
The playground was recently renovated, then temporarily closed after a May 2025 inspection found safety defects before reopening in July 2025. [1]
