Practical
The address is Schönhauser Allee 176, 10119 Berlin, near U Senefelder Platz. [1]
There is no general ticket for the whole compound, because each tenant or event sets its own entry and booking rules. [1]
The current das pfeffer lunch menu lists dishes at 7.60 and 9.10 euros, with coffee and tea from 08:00. [1]
Price check: 2026-08-02. Theatre, museum, restaurant, and event prices vary by tenant. [1]
Times and seasons
Who it suits, and when
Pfefferberg suits visitors who want to combine a historic site with a museum, theatre, restaurant, beer garden, or event. [1]
People who want a single quiet attraction should check the tenant and event map first, because the compound has several separate uses. [1]
UNVERIFIED estimate: allow 30 minutes for a courtyard walk, or 2 to 4 hours when combining a meal, museum, or theatre event. [1]
What is not obvious
The site is part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage, and some historic buildings still show their industrial structure. [1]
History
Joseph Pfeffer acquired the site in 1841 and opened a beer serving business there in 1844. [1]
The brewery was taken over by Friedrich Ernst Hillig and Johann Leonhard Friedrich in 1861, joined Schultheiss in 1919, and stopped beer production in 1921. [1]
The site was used for chocolate, bakery, and later Neues Deutschland printing and publishing after 1945. [1]
After 1990, local artists and residents developed the idea of a cultural factory, and Pfefferwerk acquired the property in 1999 with support from the State of Berlin. [1]
The heritage renovation ran from 2004 to 2011, with later new construction, and the brewery pub reopened on the site in 2013. [1][2]
