Berlin places that closed or moved, checked August 2026
Seven of the 221 places in our Berlin research had closed or changed address by 2 August 2026. Here is each one, the date it went, and the source that says so, plus what we still cannot confirm.
Seven of the 221 places in our Berlin research were closed or had moved when we checked them on 2 August 2026. That is a little over three percent, from a list drawn up in the same year.
The number matters less than the reason for publishing it. Closure information is the part of a city guide that rots first, and almost nobody maintains it. A page saying a bar is great stays online for a decade after the bar is gone, and the language models that read those pages inherit the mistake. So this is a register: what closed, when, and the source that says so.

Two more places changed in ways that a closure list usually misses. Mustafa's Gemüse Kebap moved, and the queue moved with it, so the old corner is now the wrong place to stand. The Friedrichshain club long written up as Suicide Circus appears in Berlin's current club guide under the name Lokschuppen. Whether that is the same operation under a new name or a different one at the same address is something we could not establish, so we do not assert it.
The one we could not settle
SchwuZ is the interesting case, because two sources of reasonable quality disagree.
Berlin's official city listing, read on 2 August 2026, records the venue as closed since the beginning of November 2025. A Berliner Zeitung report dated 15 May 2026 describes SchwuZ starting into a new future with music, dancing and a large party. Both are dated. Neither obviously supersedes the other, because a city listing can lag by months and a press piece about a new chapter is not the same thing as a confirmation that the doors are open on a given Friday.
We record the conflict and leave it unresolved. The alternative is to pick whichever source suits the sentence we want to write, which is how the rot starts.
What "we do not know" looks like here
There is a larger honesty problem behind the seven closures. Of the 175 places currently on the map, 48 have a status we confirmed against a source on 2 August 2026. The other 127 carry the label "status not confirmed", and the map says so on every card.
That is not a data gap we are hiding. Confirming that a small bar in Wedding is open this month takes a source that says so this month, and for most small venues no such source exists in public. The research recorded four evidence grades and would not promote a place to "open" without one.
Two of the seven above also have soft edges. Roamers is marked permanently closed by a listing updated in December 2025, but the only account of when it actually shut is a customer review saying April, without a year. Kanaan's closing month is reported as March 2026 and the exact day is not established. Both are written that way above rather than rounded into something cleaner.
How to use this
If you are planning a day and a place on it appears in the table, replace it before you leave. If a place is not in the table, that is weaker evidence than it looks, because it means only that nothing we read said it had closed.
The check date on this page is 2 August 2026. When you read a closure claim anywhere, including here, the useful question is not whether the source is reputable. It is when the source last looked.
