What closes on Monday in Berlin, and what does not

Seventeen Berlin places whose own websites state a Monday position, split into what shuts and what stays open, plus the three Museumsinsel houses the state museums close. Most listings say nothing at all about Monday.

Monday closes a real part of Berlin, and the part it closes is not obvious. Some of the state museums shut, the markets all stop, and individual restaurants take their Ruhetag on Monday more often than on any other day. None of that is posted anywhere you would see it while standing on the street.

This is what the research corpus can actually confirm. Seventeen of the 48 places with a full card state a Monday position on their own website. The rest say nothing about Monday at all, which is the honest and slightly unsatisfying headline: most opening-hours information does not answer the question.

Confirmed closed on Monday

Place Kiez What the source says
Zeiss-Großplanetarium Prenzlauer Berg Cash desk closed Monday, open Tuesday to Sunday
Schloss Britz Neukölln Museum 12:00 to 18:00 Tuesday to Sunday, Monday closed
Café Morgenrot Prenzlauer Berg Monday closed except for events
Chutnify Prenzlauer Berg Tuesday to Sunday 12:00 to 23:00, Monday closed
La Bolognina Prenzlauer Berg Tuesday to Sunday 17:00 to 23:00, Monday closed
Café Frieda Prenzlauer Berg Tuesday to Saturday, Sunday and Monday closed

The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin list the Altes Museum, the Bode-Museum and the Neues Museum as closed on Mondays, with published summer 2026 hours mostly running 10:00 to 17:00 or 18:00 on weekdays. The Pergamonmuseum is closed on every day, not only Monday: it is being refurbished, and the museums give 4 June 2027 as the reopening date for the north wing and central building. Planning a Museumsinsel Monday is therefore a bad idea twice over.

Markets are the other reliable loss. Not one of the eleven markets in our market timetable runs on a Monday.

Confirmed open on Monday

Place Kiez Monday hours
Klunkerkranich Neukölln 17:00 to 00:00, main season 16 April to end of September
Kalle Halle Neukölln 12:00 to 21:00, Monday to Thursday
Der Fischladen Prenzlauer Berg Restaurant 12:00 to 21:00, fish counter 10:00 to 20:00
La Maison Neukölln 08:00 to 17:00
Café Pilz Neukölln 17:00 to 22:00
Barra Neukölln Dinner 18:00 to 23:45
Wok Show Neukölln 17:00 to 22:00, and closed Tuesday instead
das pfeffer Prenzlauer Berg Lunch 11:30 to 13:30
Jüdischer Friedhof Schönhauser Allee Prenzlauer Berg 08:00 to 16:00, Monday to Thursday
Dunckerclub Prenzlauer Berg Dark Monday, a regular dance night since 1993

Wok Show is the useful case to remember. It closes on Tuesday rather than Monday, which is a reminder that Ruhetag is a per-venue decision and not a citywide convention.

Everything outdoors keeps working. Tempelhofer Feld has no closing day in any meaningful sense, and neither do the parks, the canal paths or the open-air memorial sites.

What this does not cover

Thirty-one of the 48 fully researched places say nothing about Monday on their own site. They are not absent from the tables above because they are open or closed; they are absent because the source does not answer the question, and guessing would defeat the purpose of checking.

Public holidays are a separate problem again, and a worse one. A Monday that falls on a holiday behaves differently from an ordinary Monday, and almost none of these sources say how.

Every row here was read on 2 August 2026. Opening hours are the fastest-decaying fact in any city guide, so check the two or three places a day actually depends on before you set out.
